Official Level 1 Training

IFS Level 1 Training is the core training recommended for those using IFS in a clinical setting.

Internal Family Systems is a unique and powerful way in which to learn about, trust, and love our parts and ourselves, as well as the parts and Self of others.

Learning to practice IFS is a deeply engaging process and requires the IFS practitioner to be fully trained to ensure that the client of an IFS therapist is equipped to practice IFS safely and effectively.

The IFS Level 1 Training is a comprehensive training program of roughly 90 training hours with an intimate student to staff ratio of 3:1 to ensure adequate close, hands-on supervision of the participants’ experiential practice as therapists and clients.

We use breakout spaces to facilitate small group connections throughout the training. You’ll meet as a big group with all members of your training throughout your sessions, have breakout groups of about 10 other people, and even smaller groups for practice sessions to hone your skills with the model.

Completion of the IFS Level 1 Training will also allow you to:

• Refer to yourself as an IFS therapist (if you have a training equivelant to a clinical masters from a recognmised educational institution), or IFS Practitioner without aforesaid qualification.
• Work towards IFS Certification
• Listing in the IFSANZ trained practitioner directory and the IFS Institute practitioner directory
• Attend IFS Level 2 Trainings

There is extremely high demand in this training and while we’d love to be able to accommodate all interested parties it is not currently possible because of the limited number of IFSI endorsed trainers. Please do note in the interim though, there are many other workshops available to get started and learn the basic skills, and self-study options and we also strongly recommend getting a trained IFS therapist and/or take classes with accredited and experienced people whilst you wait.

Places for this training are selected by lottery, with places weighted for balancing gender, clinical qualification and experience, geography (regional applications from Australia, New Zealand, SE Asia and Oceania will be preferred). We aim to support indigenous practitioners and communities through a bursary in each training. Offers and places in all official IFS Institute trainings are very limited, and we regretfully accept we cannot meet the current demand. We cannot enter into discussion about individual applications. Multiple enquiries will not enhance your application’s chances (sorry), it takes time to reply to each and administratively it takes us away from other important tasks.

We do encourage community peer-learning, and getting your own therapy with a trained IFS practitioner in Australia, New Zealand and the region – try the online directory of local trained IFS practitioners or the IFSI online US-global version [https://ifs-institute.com/practitioners ].

If you have already been listed from earlier applications you do not need to add your name again, you will be added to the lottery. If you are not sure please feel free to add your name, as we do remove repeated entries.
