Legacies, Gifts and Ledgers

March 1 @ 9:30 am - March 3 @ 5:00 pm

Legacies, burdens and constellations

As a family system we all carry aspects of our family’s inheritance. This includes strengths and weakness, guilts and innocence, loyalties, shadowy unclaimed cut-offs, and more. These legacy inheritances (not just those we feel good about, or wish away) can invisibly shape us, and even to require something of us in our life. As part of a larger context, a system of systems, we discover much we have struggled with or pathologised about ourselves, can be understood as belonging to the whole family or social system. When we personalise these heavy burdens we can experience ourselves as ‘stuck, broken or treatment resistant’ , rather than allowing that the approach (medical or psychological) may be misdirected. Additionally, these inter-generational imbalances or debts can travel through and across family lines over decades, even centuries. Collective burdens may relate to social experiences such as immigration, colonisation, gender and religion – institutional and social mores, and more.

Any part in the personal or family system can be carrying legacy influences that impact its’ role and functioning. These are unique energies and influences that we acquired from our families, and other legacies that are shared more widely – the result of our history, cultural codes, ways of upbringing, system of education, ethnicity, gender and so on. They can be visible and obvious, or hidden and unaware. Acknowledging both the pain and the beauty of our heritage brings healing and clarity to our inner and outer systems.

In this workshop we will learn to;

  • identify legacy influences in ourselves and our clients
  • understand their content and recognise their impact on the person’s system and life
  • invite representatives to stand-in within our system to bring new information, energy and perception
  • separate ‘heirlooms’ in our legacy that we would like to keep and pass on forward, and the painful burdens that we could release
  • understand and practice the release of process of legacy burdens, including acknowledging the importance, role and well-wishing of ancestors, resources and guides

This workshop will include some didatic teaching, live demonstrations, and much opportunity to experience practice and build skills working in small groups.

This workshop will provide is a process-oriented approach to learning and adult development. Participants will learn by doing, sharing and reflecting. This is not a therapeutic group, and those seeking therapy are kindly directed to appropriate professionals. If you are unsure please contact the organiser.

Who is this for?

This workshop will be offered to those who have completed basic Constellation training and/or a Deepening-Enriching Small Group workshop, or Level 1 IFS or above. Basic Constellations and IFS concepts eg representational perception, ‘parts and Self’ language will be explained.

Note – these workshops qualify for equivalent hours of specialised training that may be counted towards Continuing Professional Development according to requirements set down by your accrediting body. Registered health professionals have a responsibility to ensure that they continue to maintain, enhance and extend their knowledge and skills throughout their working lives.

Anyone attending the live training/workshop is recommended to have their vaccination and boosters against COVID-19 up to date. We recommend all participants take best precautions (masks, distancing, hand-washing, testing) in order to take care of others and themselves during the pandemic and flu seasons. Despite loss of media attention, the Australian infection rates and hospital numbers are still significant, and we hope to take care of those around us by taking good care in gathering together. Long Covid is a reality.

Testimonials from attendees of Simon’s recent workshops …

“The workshop inspired me to become more committed to using the model and developed my confidence. Group discussions, demonstrations and small group work created a positive and open learning atmosphere. Simon was living the values of IFS through openly embracing all the parts in the room. I had the opportunity to work with my own parts in a supportive atmosphere.

Fun, informative, experiential, respectful, and inspiring.

Useful, effective, grounding, and gave me more confidence in using IFS

Really enjoyed Simons’s presence, authenticity, compassion, and expertise in the field. It made for an engaging and fun workshop and I came away inspired.

An absolute must to attend if you are wanting to explore integenerational inheritances in your practice.

I really appreciate Simon’s process oriented style and his embodiment of Self-energy, and refined understanding of the Field – he lives and breaths it.”
